Course DescriptionThe Doorways to Construction full year program is a highly practical one which is supported by theory and is designed for students wishing to explore a career in the building and construction industry. The focus is on providing hands on The Construction Pathways full year program is a highly practical one which is supported by theory and is designed for students wishing to explore a career in the building and construction industry. The focus is on providing hands on practical experience in the trade areas of carpentry, concreting, tiling, painting and decorating, joinery, plastering, plaster board fixing/flushing, bricklaying and demolition. Students complete competencies from the Construction Training package. Students will complete their National White Card training which is the regulatory authority requirement before entry to a work site. High standards of safe work practices are expected and enforced throughout the course. All students are required to organise and participate in Structured Workplace Learning in industry settings. PathwaysThis course leads to Certificate lll courses in a range of different trade areas as well as possibilities in School Based and full-time Apprenticeships.
Entry RequirementsGenuine interest in the Construction Industry and sound literacy and numeracy skills. Pre-course requirement for VFSS funded students is White-Card completion prior to course commencement ($100 per head). A Term 3 2021 date for White-Card completion TBA
Other RequirementsStudents must supply their own steel capped boots, 8m quality tape measure and a box of quality disposable dust masks. The tape measure and box of dust masks must be labelled with the student's name. Other personal protective clothing and equipment will be supplied by the course and will include safety glasses, a shirt, riggers gloves and ear muffs. Shirts are to be worn and visible at all times while on site

This course is delivered by an approved registered training provider and as such, students may be eligible to be funded for the training cost of this course under a subsidised training contract (VFSS). Selection ProcessStudents will undertake the VET Readiness Orientation (VETRO) process in Semester 2, 2021 via a referral process completed at their Home School using an online from. Once the Home School has completed the referral process, students will be required to undertake a Snapshot Reading and Numeracy Assessment to demonstrate sufficient literacy and numeracy ability.
Orientation DetailsOrientation is undertaken on the first day Tuesday, 8 February 2022. Students to meet at the Building and Construction Centre at Heathfield High School.
